Every year, the UN dedicates the 8th of March to Women to generate widespread celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women, and illuminate the grievous gaps in equality.
In 2016, Project Everyone teamed up with a wide range of partners including UNF, UN YouthEnvoy, Unicef, Malala Fund, ONE, Pearson and Unilever to align gender equality issues with the Global Goals. We created a short campaign film and social media assets which generated 2.5 million impressions.
Our International Women’s Day content was shared worldwide by names including Emma Watson, Salma Hayek, Queen Rania, Hannah Godefa and Tanya Burr, who concurrently released a Time For Girls blog post outlining why Gender Equality is key to the Global Goals and invited her followers to take action.
Empowering women and girls is the single most important thing we can do to drive human development. Goal 5 on gender equality presents the biggest opportunity of our lifetime to achieve our ambition for a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive world for all. This International Women’s Day I encourage you to take action to empower girls and women everywhere.Paul PolmanCEO, Unilever
